The gentle snowfall that began in southeastern Lincoln County during the pre-dawn hours will intensify through the morning on Thursday and continue into the evening, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Lincoln County motorists should face messy roadways during both the morning and evening commutes, and there have been numerous closures and cancellations affecting the area.
The most recent NWS forecast calls for 6 to 10 inches of snowfall accumulation.
Temperatures should remain below freezing for the duration of the event, which should preclude the possibility of rain, sleet or ice except along the immediate coastline, according to the NWS.
Wind is also forecast to be a factor during the storm, with sustained velocities at 10-25 mph and gusts to 20 mph, according to the NWS.
A Winter Storm Watch isssued by the NWS is in effect through 9 p.m. on Thursday.
