The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Lincoln County in regard to a classic Nor’easter forecast to chug through the area from late Thursday night to Saturday morning.
Some forecasters are warning that this event could be the largest snowfall of the season so far. The NWS is forecasting 18 to 24 inches of accumulation and noting that “confidence in achieving 6 inches or more of snowfall is high at this time”.
The storm will also bring some blustery winds, with sustained velocities of 15 to 25 mph and gusts to 40 mph coming out of the northeast, according to the NWS.
Visibility is also forecast to be a factor, with heavy snowfall rates and high winds reducing line of sight to less than ¼ mile at times, according to the NWS. Areas south of Lincoln County may be under Blizzard Warnings when the storm hits, according the NWS.
The heaviest snowfall is forecast for Friday night into Saturday morning, according to the NWS.
The Lincoln County News will continue to follow the progress of this event and post any additional information here as soon as it is obtained.
