The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Watch in advance of a weather system forecast to bring up to 7 inches of snowfall to Lincoln County on Saturday.
The Watch affects only three Maine counties, Lincoln, Knox and Waldo.
The storm will develop off the mid-Atlantic coast and then move northeast, stalling offshore of Maine on Saturday morning, according to forecasters. This storm track will bring the heaviest snowfall to the midcoast region, including Lincoln County, according to the NWS advisory. Immediate coastal areas and the peninsulas will suffer the brunt of the storm, according to the NWS.
Snowfall is forecast to begin in the mid-morning and continue through the evening hours, according to the NWS. Total accumulation is presently forecast by the NWS to be 5 to7 inches. The track on this storm is still highly variable, any change could increase, or decrease, accumulation forecasts. In fact, some local broadcast forecasters are calling for substantially less snowfall, somewhere in the range of 3 inches.
Winds from the north will also be a factor, with sustained velocities of 10 to 20 mph and gusts to 30 mph, according to the NWS.
The Lincoln County News will continue to follow the progress of this event and post any additional information here as soon as it becomes available.
