Lincoln County residents and visitors should keep an eye on the sky Sunday afternoon, according to a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service. “Strong to possibly severe thunderstorms are likely across the area from late this morning through this evening,” according to the NWS bulletin. At 11 a.m. NWS radar was tracking a line of thunderstorms developing across eastern Vermont and moving slowly to east.
The NWS has already issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for areas west and south of Lincoln County. A check of radar images on intellicast.com at 12:00 p.m. indicated the line of thunderstorms in northern Vermont are moving more northerly than easterly, which may keep them west of Lincoln County. Another line of storms, also observed on intellicast.com at 12:00 p.m., was moving toward Maine from upstate New York and appeared to be following the same track as the storms moving through Vermont.
Some local forecasters are calling for the possibility of thunderstorms along coastal areas to increase in the evening hours.
“Any severe storms could contain damaging winds and large hail,” according to the NWS bulletin. “Anyone outside this afternoon and evening should be prepared to seek shelter immediately if storms threaten,” the NWS advised.
The Lincoln County News will continue to follow this story and post any updates here as soon as they are obtained.
