The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Wind Advisory in regard to a storm front expected to visit Lincoln County Tuesday night through Wednesday morning. The front is forecast to bring southerly winds with a sustained velocity of 25 to 35 mph and gusts exceeding 45 mph, according to the NWS. Heavy rainfall is also expected with this storm, according to the NWS.
The heaviest rainfall and highest winds should arrive in late night hours, and may bring overnight power outages to the area, according to the NWS advisory.
Because of the storm track, south facing coastal areas and Lincoln County peninsulas should see the highest winds, according to the NWS. Power outages and downed limbs and trees are a possibility during the storm, according to the NWS.
Coastal residents and businesses may also be affected by the 10.6-foot high tide at 1:52 a.m. (for Newcastle) that may be heightened by storm surge of 2-feet as the southerly winds push water up south facing rivers.
The Wind Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday. Current forecasts show the weather front moving out quickly on Wednesday morning, bringing in clear skies.
The Lincoln County News will continue to follow the progress of this event and post any additional information here as soon as it becomes available.
