The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in regard to a storm system that is forecast to bring every sort of precipitation to Lincoln County on Thursday.
While precipitation is a certainty, according to forecasters… Whether that precipitation comes in as rain, snow, an icy mix — or all of the above — is still purely speculation.
The front is forecast to chug into Lincoln County sometime in the morning hours. However, the storm track is still variable and even a small variation in course could bring more snow… Or rain. Most forecasts agree that Lincoln County should see snowfall first, followed by mixed precipitation.
Precipitation, in whatever form, will continue through the day, according to the NWS.
Some parts of the NWS Winter Weather Advisory are noteworthy in regard to travel during the storm.
“Confidence is high for a significant snowfall to occur in the warning areas with a mix of snow to sleet and freezing rain in the advisory areas,” the NWS Advisory warns, adding, “As snow winds down Thursday evening… Freezing drizzle will likely develop across much of the area.”.
It’s possible that inland areas of Lincoln County may see over 6 inches of snowfall, while areas along the Route 1 corridor will see snowfall to 6 inches washing away in late afternoon rainfall, according to combined forecasts.
Presently, most forecasts agree that the Lincoln County peninsulas should see more rain than snow.
High winds are not forecast to be a factor in this storm.
The Lincoln County News will continue to follow this weather event and report any additional information here as soon as it becomes available.
