For the second time in as many days the National Weather Service has issued an advisory for areas surrounding Lincoln County, but not specifically for Lincoln County. This time a sloppy combination of snow and sleet followed by rainfall are forecast for nearby areas, causing the NWS to issue a Winter Storm Watch beginning Friday at 9 p.m. Lincoln County is forecast to see a short period of overnight snowfall on Friday that should quickly change over to rainfall, and is not subject to any weather advisories.
However, when a similar forecast and advisory pattern went out earlier this week on Tuesday, Dec. 2, Lincoln County residents woke up Wednesday morning to a last minute Winter Weather Advisory and a notable amount of accumulated ice, as opposed to the warm temps and rainfall that were in the original projection.
Another point of interest to Lincoln County residents may also be the “freeze line” that forecasters have drawn between the wintry precipitation and rainfall, which is running along the Rt. 1 corridor, indicating inland areas of Lincoln County may see some of the same type of weather that has placed their neighbors in the next county under a Winter Storm Watch.
Presently, the forecast calls for precipitation to begin in Lincoln County in the late night hours of Friday and intensify during the early morning hours of Saturday. Temps are forecast to be below freezing when the precipitation arrives and then climb into the mid 30’s by sunrise, moving all the way into the upper 40’s by Saturday afternoon. Precipitation is forecast to continue all day on Saturday and through the overnight hours into early Sunday morning. As the rainfall tapers off, the temps slide back into the sub-freezing zone, making for the possibility of an icy finish to the storm in the morning hours of Sunday.
The Lincoln County News will continue to follow the progress of this event and post any additional information here as soon as it is obtained.
