The National Weather Service has upgraded a winter storm watch to a winter storm warning in regard to the next snowstorm forecast to visit Lincoln County, on Groundhog Day, Monday, Feb. 2.
This event is forecast to bring snowfall, heavy at times, during the day on Monday before chugging out of the area late Monday night. Temps are forecast to remain well below the freeze line, so the event should be all “light and fluffy” snowfall, with “8 to 12 inches” of accumulation forecast by the NWS.
Winds may once again be a factor in this event, with sustained velocities of 15 to 25 mph from the north, gusting to 40 mph, according to the NWS.
Temps during the event will stay exceedingly low, with a high ranging from zero to 15 degrees above zero.
The storm track is still uncertain, which may mean higher or lower snowfall totals. The winter storm watch is in effect from 7 a.m. Monday through 3 a.m. Tuesday, according to the NWS.
Coastal areas of Lincoln County are forecast to see higher winds and snowfall totals than inland areas, according to forecasters.
The Lincoln County News will continue to follow the progress of this event and post any additional information here as soon as it is obtained.
