The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory warning that snow, sleet and freezing rain may be in the Lincoln County forecast during the overnight hours of Monday through Tuesday morning. It is likely the weather system will affect the Tuesday morning commute with a rapidly changing mix of icy precipitation, according to forecasters.
Temps are forecast to hover right along the freeze line during most of the event, bringing one to three inches of accumulated snow and sleet as well as one-tenth of an inch of ice accretion, according to the NWS advisory.
Precipitation in some form should begin in the early morning hours of Tuesday and continue into the day, slowly changing over to all rainfall as temps rise during the afternoon hours. Rain is forecast to continue into the evening hours of Tuesday, according to forecasters.
Northeasterly winds may be a factor in this event, with wind velocities peaking in the early morning hours of Tuesday, at the same time as the most significant chance exists for freezing precipitation. Ice encrusted tree limbs and wires combined with blustery winds could mean power outages.
The sustained wind velocities for that time period are in the 15 to 25 mph range with gusts at 40 mph.
The winter weather advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Monday to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the NWS.
