Rockland optometrist Dr. William Coppola hopes to open a Damariscotta office in his new building across from Young’uns on Main Street by September.
The building is currently under construction. Coppola said he does not know when the office will open, but he is aiming for September.
Coppola has been practicing optometry in Rockland for 41 years. His decision to begin practicing in Damariscotta stems from the approximately 1,000 patients from the area who visit his Rockland office.
“There’s quite a need for eye care,” Coppola said of the Damariscotta area.
Coppola plans to see patients at the new office from Monday to Friday, with the help of a young associate.
Coppola first approached the town about his plans to erect the building in February 2013. After more than two years, the project appears to be nearing completion. Contractors recently paved the driveway at the site.
