Patricia’s Closet, Damariscotta’s source for intimate clothing and accessories, has announced that the company’s retail location, at 74 Main Street, will be closing its doors at the end of December.
Owners Rebecca Akeley and Darcy Fraser are looking forward to an opportunity where they can regroup and decide which turn, if any, the company should take. The wide range of demands from their customers has given them the opportunity to alter the company’s focus.
“Our customers’ needs are always changing, and we’ve been trying to keep up with that,” Fraser said. “Restructuring to meet their needs is a priority, and we are trying to determine if that is possible right now. We are sure a change is necessary, but the path of the store in uncertain.”
“Unfortunately, the economy hasn’t made it easy for us to do all that we want to do,” Akeley said. “The whole area has been very supportive. We appreciate all the positive feedback we’ve gotten on the store. Darling and Delisle, Serendipity House and a lot of other shops have been really helpful.”
According to Fraser, Patricia’s Closet will be changing in form but it certainly won’t be changing in tone, as the Damariscotta region was part of what made their retail shop so enjoyable to operate.
“We have had so much fun working with all the women in this area, getting to know everyone, and being able to help them all,” she says. “We hope we can find a way to continue that. There is no place else we’d rather be doing this.” They would like their customers to still visit and shop this month as there will be sales throughout the store.
