Former Wiscasset School Resource Officer Perry Hatch will return to the role at 7 a.m., Monday, May 2, according to interim Police Chief Jerry Hinton.
Hatch was with the Maine State Police for 25 years and the Wiscasset Police Department for about four. He was Wiscasset’s first school resource officer during his final year with the department, from 2014-2015.
Hatch will split his time between Wiscasset Elementary School and Wiscasset Middle High School, according to Hinton.
The Wiscasset School Department is “excited about Perry coming back” and Hatch is “excited about coming back,” Hinton said.
Hatch resigned in 2015 after the denial of a vacation request, but Hinton does not foresee a reoccurrence of the issue following a change in administration.
“We don’t think that’s going to be an issue,” Hinton said.
If Hatch requests time off and has vacation time to take, he should be able to take it, Hinton said.
Thomas Hoepner was the school resource officer from Aug. 31, 2015 until his recent resignation.
