On one of the warmest days of the year family and friends gathered to celebrate the marriage of Kin Anna Plett and Sherbrooke Yates Andrews.
The outdoor festivities took place on July 23 at the home of the groom’s parents, Betsy and David Andrews, on the banks of the Damariscotta River in picturesque South Bristol.
The couple exchanged their vows and rings under a garden arbor flanked by the Andrews’ vegetable garden and handbuilt chicken coop. Guests gathered to join the ceremony by standing between the well-mulched rows of lettuce, broccoli, potatoes, and dill. The wedding was officiated by Elizabeth Wyman, an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Maine and a colleague of the groom’s mother. Following the ceremony, the enthusiastic guests showered the couple with bubbles and wild birdseed.
The bride wore an ivory colored cotton and bamboo sleeveless summer dress with a seaweed-green underskirt. Her bridal bouquet was comprised of white lilies from her New Jersey garden, two pink roses from her late grandmother’s California garden, and a host of blooms grown by the groom’s mother in South Bristol.
The couple’s family members traveled from as close to home as South Bristol and from as far away as California, Colorado, New Mexico, and London, England, to join the wedding celebration. The most senior member of the wedding party was the groom’s paternal grandfather, Warren Andrews, originally of Kennebunkport, who traveled from his home in Waterboro to celebrate with his entire family. The bride’s aunts and cousins from California and England were also part of the celebration.
At the festive garden reception under the shade of a large tent, guests were treated to a raw bar of freshly-harvested oysters grown by the groom’s father in the Damariscotta River estuary. This was followed by a traditional Maine clambake with corn, potatoes and an abundance of local soft-shell lobsters.
Both bride and groom are graduates of Bard College, New York, and the wedding party featured many fellow former students and their families. Sherbrooke Andrews is a web developer at JP Morgan Chase in Manhattan. Kin works on community outreach for the Northeast Organic Farmers Association and as a volunteer at the Mercer County Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
The bride’s parents are Jay and Nicole Plett of Lawrenceville, N.J. The groom’s parents David and Betsy Andrews.
