The Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit has arrested a Newcastle man for allegedly possessing child pornography.
Special Agent Justin Kittredge arrested Robert Ransley, 58, at his 324 Mills Road home on Wednesday, July 16, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said in a press release.
Ransley faces a charge of possession of sexually explicit material. The type of charge refers to material that depicts a child or children under the age of 12.
“His computer was seized earlier this month and an analysis of it by computer technicians showed thousands of images of child porn, but none of the images are believed to be from Maine,” McCausland said.
Ransley is an artist and his paintings are in galleries nationwide, McCausland said.
Ransley was transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset and released on $500 unsecured bail the same day.
