Police have identified the three people injured Tuesday afternoon in a head-on collision on U.S. Route 1 in Northport.
According to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, 22-year-old Roger Feltis of Waldoboro was driving south in a Volkswagen Jetta with two passengers when he appeared to
cross the centerline for an unknown reason. He suffered leg injuries and broken bones in the accident, Sheriff Jeff Trafton said in a press release issued Wednesday morning.
The Jetta slammed head-on into a 2005 Mazda driven by Malorie Dearborn, 21, of Belfast. She sustained back and neck injuries in the crash.
Dearborn was alone in her vehicle, but Feltis had two passengers – Chad Hammond, 18, of New Harbor, who suffered leg injuries and broken bones, and 19-year-old
Douglas Anderson of Port Clyde, who was uninjured, according to Trafton.
The three injured people were transported by ambulance and Life Flight of Maine helicopter to either Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast or Eastern Maine
Medical Center in Bangor.
Lt. Jason Trundy said Wednesday morning that the police were going to send someone to Bangor to interview Feltis to try and learn why he crossed the centerline.
“We’re still working on it,” he said.
The crash happened around 3:45 p.m. and caused traffic to be detoured and delayed on the coastal thoroughfare.
