Police have not identified the body recovered from a single vehicle crash in Somerville June 14.
According to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Rand Maker, state investigators are using DNA in an effort to identify the driver. The investigation is ongoing at press time.
Maine State Police are reconstructing the accident that took place late last Thursday night on Somerville Road.
According to an LCSO press release, sheriff’s deputies and the Somerville Fire Dept. responded to the single-vehicle crash after receiving a 911 call. When they arrived, the vehicle was fully involved in flames. The driver was found dead inside the vehicle.
The LCSO press release said the 2009 Toyota Rav4 had been northbound on Somerville Road when it left the roadway and struck a large tree.
At the direction of the State Medical Examiner’s Office, both the vehicle and its occupant were transported to the Maine State Police Crime Lab for identification.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Whitefield and Jefferson fire departments also responded to the scene.
