The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for a man involved in an attempted home invasion in Jefferson Sunday night.
According to the LCSO, the man is described as approximately six feet tall, medium build. When last seen he was wearing a white Halloween mask with a black bandana covering the lower part of his face. Witnesses report hearing a dog with the man; however the dog was not seen at the door.
The LCSO reports Sheriff’s Deputies and Maine State Police responded to the Noyes Lane residence around 9:30 p.m. Sept. 5 following the report of an attempted home invasion. Several units responded including a State Police K-9 unit and completed a search of the area, finding the suspect had fled.
According to police, a woman who was visiting at the residence stated she was leaving to walk the short distance to her home when she heard noises and ran back to the residence.
As she entered the residence and attempted to close the door, a man stuck the barrel of a shotgun through the opening and announced that he was from the State Police. The woman and others in the home held the door closed and pinned the shotgun in the door. The man kept insisting he was from the State Police and demanded to be let in.
The man was not wearing a uniform and did not display any type of identification.
One of the residents called 911 and told the man that the police were on the way. The man was then able to pull his shotgun out of the door and fled into the night.
LCSO continues to pursue leads at this time and is asking anyone with information to contact Deputy Scott Hayden or Lt. Michael Murphy at 882-7332.
