Police are looking for two New York men in connection with an investigation into the reported kidnapping of a Waldoboro woman and her son from their home the night of Feb. 25.
According to Waldoboro Police Officer Larry Hesseltine, Karena Parker, 37, of Waldoboro, called 911 from Augusta at 6:38 a.m. Feb. 26 and reported that she and her young son had been kidnapped from Waldoboro.
Augusta Police Department responded, and the Augusta Police Department, the Waldoboro Police Department, and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office worked on the case throughout the morning.
Both Parker and her year-and-a-half-old son were alright and home with family that evening, Hesseltine said.
Augusta Police spokesman Lt. Christopher Massey told The Lincoln County News shortly before 1 p.m. Feb. 26 his department had concluded its role in the investigation and turned over its findings to the Waldoboro police and the LCSO.
As of March 4, Hesseltine said he still is not sure exactly where the investigation is leading yet because several different stories are being told about what happened.
“I don’t think it’s a hoax. I don’t think [Parker] made it up. Something happened, we just don’t have all the facts yet as to what exactly happened,” he said previously.
Massey told the Kennebec Journal Feb. 25 “Details at this time suggest that [the kidnapping] did not occur,” but other crimes involving illegal drugs may have.
According to Hesseltine, the two men he is looking for do have drug ties.
“Everybody agrees they’re two drug dealers from New York,” Hesseltine said. “They’re two drug dealers from New York who come up here to move product: crack, cocaine, and heroin.”
The identities of the two men are not yet known to police. Hesseltine described the men as black, and said they go by the nicknames “Books” and “Paper.”
A woman connected to the case was initially uncooperative, Hesseltine said. She has since spoken with Hesseltine on the phone, but refuses to meet with him in person, he said.
Attempts to reach Parker for comment were unsuccessful.
