The Jefferson Budget Committee and Board of Selectmen will hold two separate meetings on May 6 and 7 to discuss the new school project proposed for the town.
The Committee will meet on May 6 at the Jefferson Village School at 6 p.m. The Board of Selectmen will have a special meeting the following day in the town office at 7 p.m.
Committee members will make project recommendations to selectmen following their meeting regarding questions to be posed to residents during a June 9 referendum vote.
The concept for the new school building design received unanimous support from approximately 60 residents during a straw poll vote at a school board meeting April 1.
There will be a referendum vote on the plan in its entirety June 9, during which time the optional features for the proposed new school will also be voted on.
The town of Jefferson must first vote whether or not to accept the grant that will cover the cost of the project. People must also decide what, if any, additional adjustments to the project will be made: roof design, additional space for the school gymnasium, cafeteria and library and heating system design. The town will absorb the costs for additional features for the project.
Interested parties may view the proposed new school concept design on the Jefferson Village School website at www.jeffersonvillage.org.
A separate public hearing for the project will be held on May 18 at Jefferson Village School at 6:30 p.m.
