Red’s Eats, the take-out restaurant famous for its lobster rolls and long lines, is being sought to do the reality show “Lunch Rush” on the History Channel.
The same creators of Pawn Stars have contacted Red’s Eats owner Debbie Gagnon and have expressed an interest in the popular Wiscasset landmark.
By the time Gagnon was contacted for a casting video, the deadline was fast approaching and she didn’t have time to do one so she sent the video that was done last year for “Phantom Gourmet.”
In it, Gagnon tells how they make their popular lobster roll and shares her customers’ reactions.
According to Gagnon, the executive producer liked what he saw and actually extended the deadline to produce the casting video. The crew at Red’s put a video together this past weekend.
The staff introduced themselves and each shared some interests on camera for producers. To end the video, they stood together in front of Red’s Eats and said, “This is Red’s Eats and this is how we roll.”
What the executive producer of the show likes about Red’s Eats is its family atmosphere. Besides Gagnon, her sister Cindy Collamore and Collamore’s children Cassie and Christopher all work at the family business. Many employees outside the Gagnon family have worked there for over 10 years.
Jill Moody, a six-year employee, works at Red’s Eats with her three daughters, Shannon, Abbie and Becca and loves it, she said.
“Besides working with my kids,” she said, “I get to work with Cindy who has been by best friend since grade school.”
Moody said she loves meeting the people that come to Red’s. “I have met people from all over the world,” she said.
Last summer, performer Lionel Richie (with the Motown group, the Commodores from 1968, until launching a solo career) was visiting Boothbay Harbor for a wedding and stopped by Red’s Eats on his way home. “He ordered six lobster rolls,” Moody said.
