On Sept. 17, Wiscasset Town Clerk Christine Wolfe was presented a citizens’ petition seeking a recount of the votes cast on a warrant article presenting the town planning budget in the Sept. 10 referendum.
The planning budget passed by one vote, 353 in favor, 352 opposed.
The petition contains 82 signatures. According to Wolfe, valid signatures appearing on the petition must be voters who voted in September. Once the signatures have been verified, the ballot box will be unsealed and recount will be done.
The town budget committee strongly opposed the planning budget prior to the vote as well as the assessing/human resource budget, two capital improvement articles, the purchase of a public works truck and a generator for the town office, all of which failed with the exception of the planning budget, which narrowly passed by one vote.
