With the upcoming holiday season, the Damariscotta Police Department would like to remind citizens of the importance of having designated drivers and wearing seatbelts.
Police understand that family and friends get together during the holidays and may drink. It is very important that a designated driver is set up beforehand so that everyone will remain safe during what is supposed to be a happy time.
Damariscotta Police would also like to remind everyone of the importance of wearing seatbelts. It is now the law that seatbelts be worn by everyone.
A first offense seatbelt violation is a $70 fine, a second offense seatbelt violation is a $160 fine and a third offense seatbelt violation is a $310 fine. The police department understands what an impact a fine like this could have on a family, especially during the holidays.
If anyone has questions about the seatbelt law, please do not hesitate to call 563-1909.
The Damariscotta Police Department will be having extra patrols during the holidays for both of these purposes.
