Renys has announced plans to open a new location on Congress Avenue in Portland early next year.
According to John Reny, president of the popular, Damariscotta based retail business R.H. Reny Inc., the new store will be in L.L. Bean’s former location and the current location of Olympia Sports. Renys will combine the two spaces after Olympia Sports closes at the end of this year, Reny said.
They hope to hold an “April-ish grand opening,” Reny said. The opening should be something to look forward to, because “We do it up when we open a new store,” Reny said.
The new location will employ about 50 people, as well as potentially creating several new jobs in the warehouse and corporate offices in Lincoln County, Reny said.
“We’ve been looking at this for a few months,” Reny said. “It’s a challenge, but it’s a big opportunity for us.”
Renys is excited to move into Maine’s largest city. With locations in Bath and Saco already, it made sense to move into Portland, Reny said.
“We provide something that no else has: stuff that you need to live everyday, right downtown, without driving out to mall,” Reny said.
