An anonymous report of a vehicle operating erratically resulted in the arrest of a Portland woman for operating under the influence of drugs in Wiscasset Oct. 7. Alison Spikell, 63, of Portland, was charged with operating under the influence of drugs with one prior, a class D misdemeanor, according to a press release from the Wiscasset Police Department.
Spikell’s was the first of two arrests for operating under the influence of drugs in Wiscasset in two days. The second was made Thursday, Oct. 8 after Cheryl Swenson, 54, of Boothbay, allegedly swerved into the opposite lane of traffic on Bath Road, causing an accident with personal injury. According to Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline, Lincoln County Communications received a report at approximately 11:30 a.m. from an anonymous caller that a gray Honda CR-V, traveling south on Route 1 from Edgecomb toward Wiscasset, was swerving into the northbound lane.
Cline located the vehicle on Main Street and watched it cross the centerline and nearly crash into another vehicle head-on, he wrote in the press release.
Cline determined Spikell was allegedly impaired, however, there was no alcohol in her system. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy 1st Class Mark Bridgham, a drug recognition expert, conducted an examination and determined Spikell was allegedly impaired due to prescription drug use, Cline wrote in the press release.
Spikell was charged with operating under the influence of drugs, one prior, and taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail. She was released later that day on $500 unsecured bail, a jail official said.
