“George” the bulldog from Newcastle who has been missing since the pick-up he was riding in was stolen in Waldoboro, has been recovered safe and sound, according to reports. “George” was found in Bath.
Following is the original story of his disappearance:
On June 26 at around 4 p.m., Terri Geroux’s pickup truck was stolen from a gas station in Waldoboro. Her dog, George, was sleeping in the truck at the time.
George is a six-year-old, tan and white, American bulldog. A friend of the owner, Peg Tynan, wrote in an email to The Lincoln County News that the dog was abandoned in the Bath area, and he has been seen on Court Street in Bath at night.
A reward is offered for George’s return, and anyone with information about the dog is urged to call Terri at 380-4882, email her at terri.geroux@gmail.com, or call the Waldoboro Police Department at 832-4500.
Geroux said the dog was last spotted around in Bath around 1 a.m. June 28. Geroux said she has basically taken the next few days off from work and has essentially moved to Bath to look for the dog full-time.
George may look intimidating, but in his case, looks are indeed deceiving, Geroux said.
“He looks big and scary but he is a wuss,” Geroux said. “If you just open up your car door and said ‘you want to go for a ride,’ he might hop in. If you had a MacDonald’s cheeseburger in your hand, it would increase the odds.”
“More than likely he is going to run away,” she said. “He knows the words ‘ride,’ and ‘daddy.'”
According to Geroux, after her truck was stolen in Waldoboro, it was seen in South Portland and ultimately abandoned in Massachusetts. Law enforcement has not yet released the truck, but right now, Geroux said, her family is focused on recovering George.
“Once we get the dog back we will worry about getting the truck back,” she said. Geroux’s husband, who was driving the truck at the time of the theft, is especially stressed by the loss of George.
“My husband had gone to Rockland on an errand,” Geroux said. “He was coming back home and he stopped at the Irving station in Waldoboro. He went into to buy a drink… Our bulldog is 115 pounds. He is pretty scary looking. I can’t imagine why anybody would want to get in the truck with him.”
Geroux urged anyone who spots George to contact her anytime day or night.
