People considering purchasing buildings with residential rental units, or current owners who want to enhance their skills and knowledge, are encouraged to attend “Owning and Managing Residential Rental Properties” presented by Wiscasset’s Coastal Enterprises Inc. (CEI), with the support of Maine Housing Authority. The course will be held at the Freeport Community Library, 10 Library Drive, in Freeport, Thurs., May 28, 6-8:30 p.m.
The course will cover tenant issues including: Applications, screening and reference checks, fair housing, leases vs. tenancies at will, security deposits, eviction procedures; and building issues including: Property maintenance and repairs, health and safety, budgeting, bookkeeping and managing expenses.
Completion of this course fulfills landlord training requirements for several mortgage programs offering expanded underwriting guidelines. This program has been approved by Maine Housing and meets Fannie Mae’s guidelines.

Pre-registration is required and the $25/person or $30/couple (or co-buyer) fee covers the cost of written materials and handouts. Registrations will not be accepted after May 21.
