Scott MacMaster’s photo of a horse-drawn wagon ride at Goranson Farm in Dresden received the most votes to become the second monthly winner of the 2018 #LCNme365 photo contest. MacMaster will receive a $50 gift certificate to Rising Tide Community Market, of Damariscotta, the sponsor of the February contest.
In a landslide, Richmond Police Chief Scott MacMaster, of Dresden, won the February #LCNme365 photo contest with 63 percent of the vote.
MacMaster’s photography hobby grew out of a police photography class he took for his job. “I took what I learned there and applied it to my hobby,” he said.
While driving through Dresden in mid-February, he saw horse-and-wagon rides taking place at Goranson Farm. He pulled over and snapped a few photos with his Canon EOS 6D using his 75-300 mm lens.

After learning about the #LCNme365 reader photo contest from a friend on Facebook months ago, MacMaster decided to enter one of the photos in the contest by posting it on his Instagram account.
“It just seemed seasonally fitting and a good representation of winter activities in Maine,” MacMaster said. “And it showed the farmland, and if you’ve ever been through here, it’s pretty inspirational.”
Not only was MacMaster excited to learn the staff judge chose his photo as the weekly winner, his kids were thrilled as well, he said.
“The kids love it,” MacMaster said. “They share my passion for photography, and they’ve joined Instagram just so they could participate and tag (The Lincoln County News). It’s kind of set off a little competition and camaraderie among my boys – there’s a bit of excitement in the house!”
In addition to having his photo featured on the front page of The Lincoln County News, MacMaster will receive a $50 gift certificate from the February contest sponsor, Rising Tide Community Market, of Damariscotta.
As the first monthly winner, MacMaster cannot win another weekly or monthly contest in 2018, but he can still submit photos for inclusion in the weekly slideshow of entries at lcnme.com.
At the end of the year, MacMaster’s photo will compete against the other 11 monthly winners as voters select the winner for 2018.
Submissions are now being accepted for the March #LCNme365 contest. The winner will receive a $50 gift certificate from the monthly sponsor, JM Automotive, of Newcastle.
