A Rockport man’s photo of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse Park during Hurricane Dorian received the most votes to win the September #LCNme365 photo contest.
William “Billy” Smith took the photo using a Mavic 2 Pro drone. “It was the weekend of Dorian and it wasn’t raining, so I was able to put the drone up and capture the scene,” Smith said.
Smith had entered the #LCNme365 photo contest in the past and decided to enter the lighthouse photo after receiving encouragement from friends and family.
“I do a lot of photography, I take a lot of pictures, but I don’t really do anything with them,” Smith said. “I don’t sell them or print them out, even for myself, but I do share them online. This is one I shared and a lot of people shared it, so I figured I would enter it and see what happened.”
In addition to having his photo featured on the front page of The Lincoln County News, Smith will receive a $50 gift certificate to The Narrows Tavern in Waldoboro courtesy of Farrin Properties, of Damariscotta, the sponsor of the September contest.
As the ninth monthly winner, Smith cannot win another weekly or monthly contest in 2019, but he can still submit photos for inclusion in the weekly slideshow of entries at lcnme.com.
Smith’s photo will compete against the other 11 monthly winners at the end of the year as voters select the winner for 2019.
Submissions are now being accepted for the October #LCNme365 contest. The winner will receive a $50 gift certificate from the monthly sponsor, Coastal Car Wash and Detail Center. For full rules and means of entry, go to lcnme.com/photo-contest.
