After rejecting a $26.5 million budget on June 28, voters of Regional School Unit 12 voted 765 to 710 to accept a reduced school budget of $26.4 million on Sept. 10.
Four towns in RSU 12 did not support the budget. Chelsea voted 119 no, 56 yes; Palermo 37 no, 32 yes; Windsor 90 no, 83 yes; and in Somerville 44 no, 15 yes.
All other towns in the district approved the budget: Alna voted 26 in favor to 11 opposed; Westport, 72 yes, 18 no; Wiscasset, yes, 393-315; and Whitefield yes, 88-76.
The approved budget includes a $445,000 reduction to local taxpayers from the one rejected on June 28. The reductions are due in part to additional state revenue and elimination of the several half-time positions including an assistant superintendent assistant principal/athletic director, social worker, science coach, and 6.1 teaching positions.
