The RSU 40 budget achieved final approval in the budget validation referendum across the school district Tuesday, June 14.
The budget passed 989-698.
RSU 40 includes Friendship, Union, Waldoboro, Warren, and Washington.
The district’s 2016-2017 budget totals $25,126,439, an increase of $1,093,983 or 4.55 percent.
Union was the only town in the district to vote against the budget, 167-117.
Voters in Union also opposed a referendum question regarding a $1 million bond for maintenance and repair at schools across the district, 163-122.
Across the district, the vote in favor of the bond was 989-689.
Waldoboro’s contribution to the RSU 40 budget is $5,069,606, an increase of $256,051 or 5.32 percent.
Part of the budget increase stems from payments on a recently approved $292,000 bond for an air-quality project at Prescott Memorial School in Washington and the 10-year, $1 million bond for maintenance and repairs throughout the district.
District voters previously passed the budget during the annual budget meeting at Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro on Tuesday, May 17.
