Regional School Unit 40 is holding a district meeting Thursday, July 17 to vote on authorizing a contract to accept secondary students from St. George.
The 10-year contract, if approved, would begin July 1, 2015 and would make Medomak Valley High School the “school of record” for St. George’s secondary students, allowing RSU 40 to accept tuition students on a non-exclusive basis.
There is a provision within the contract for RSU 40 and St. George to make a joint determination whether any student suspended for more than 10 days or expelled would return to the school.
According to the contract, St. George would pay the “maximum legal tuition rate for Medomak Valley High School established by law” plus a 10 percent debt service factor.
St. George would also bear the full cost for transporting its students to and from MVHS, and all the costs of special education services ordered by a given student’s individual education plan team, according to the contract.
The RSU 40 Board of Directors unanimously approved the contract at its June 19 meeting.
The open district meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 17 at Union Elementary School, and will be followed by the board’s regular meeting.
