Voting results are in and RSU 40 voters passed a $22,948,569.80 budget for K-12 and adult education for the 2014-2015 school year.
The budget validation referendum, held June 18, passed in total with 227 votes in favor and 164 votes against, but did not pass in two of the five member towns.
Voting results by town are: Friendship, 37 for and 44 against; Union, 26 for and 15 against; Waldoboro, 98 for and 59 against; Warren, 36 for and 41 against; Washington, 30 for and five against.
Despite the budget being up $756,139.22 or 3.41 percent in total over the current year, Friendship and Warren are the only two towns to see substantive increases in their town assessments under the new budget, going up $34,002.51 and $114,753.99, respectively.
Union will see a $2,060.59 increase, while Waldoboro’s assessment will drop by $60,253.94 and Washington’s is down $14,691.56.
