Two new, small structures at the Samoset Restaurant property in New Harbor fall below the size that requires a building permit, according to town officials.
The larger structure, a stage, is less than 200 square feet, which means it does not need a permit, according to the property owner and the town. Bristol Board of Selectmen Chairman Chad Hanna had previously indicated that the stage would require a permit.
Property owner Xavier Cervera plans to make the stage available for live entertainment at the farmers market he hopes to attract to the site and at special events. The smaller of the two structures will be a smokehouse for the restaurant he plans to build there.
Work on the restaurant should start soon.
“We should start framing in about 2 1/2 weeks,” Cervera said recently. “Once the framing begins, everything should start moving along very quickly.”
