Over a dozen Schooner Cove seniors braved the strong wind and 40 degree temperature on the east bank of the Damariscotta River, Nov. 11 in observance of Armistice Day, more recently called Veteran’s Day.
The group circled the flag pole in silence, laying a colorful wreath of remembrance and offering a few words of comfort, as the church bells tolled in the distance, commemorating the end of World War I hostilities on the 11th month, the 11th day of the 11th hour.
Too often we forget our past and it is for those of more recent conflicts to remember, passing on the history of events to today’s youth, before crossing the bar.
