According to Wiscasset Town Manager Laurie Smith, the search for a new police chief is continuing with a two-phase interview process scheduled to begin within the month.
“Out of the final applications we’ve received 17 are from Maine and 10 are from out of state,” said Smith at a June 5 Wiscasset Board of Selectmen meeting.
Smith said she had begun the process of whittling down the list and asked interested members of the board to sit in on the interview process.
Her plan is to have viable candidates meet with a cross section of Wiscasset community members including business owners, town officials, law enforcement representatives, and the Fire Chief Rob Bickford.
Selectmen Ed Polewarczyk and Pamela Dunning both volunteered to take part in the meetings.
The Wiscasset Police Department has been without a police chief since 2007. John Allen, who served in a lead supervisor and administrative role, recently retired after 25 years on the force.
