The Waldoboro Board of Selectmen renewed the town manager’s contract at their March 27 meeting.
Town Manager John Spear was hired last fall. In keeping with a provision in his contract that required his contract be reviewed “on or before March 31,” the board discussed his contract in executive session on March 13.
On March 27, they approved a one-year contract – from July 1, 2012, to June 30, 2013 – at a salary of $60,456. This is an $1185 reduction from his current salary. This includes a 2 percent increase in pay, but he will work 10 less days in the coming year.
Spear does not receive health insurance through the town. Instead, he receives a cash stipend. This stipend is increased by $719 in the new contract.
