The Twin Villages Downtown Alliance presented the Twin Villages Spirit Award to Colby & Gale Service Station Manager Daryl Fraser in a June 28 ceremony.
Fraser’s predecessor, former manager Jimmy Hall, hired Fraser as a 16-year-old high school student. He’s been with the company half his life, Colby & Gale President Robert Clifford said.
“They’re a great company,” a surprised Fraser said after the presentation. “It’s a pleasure to work here and be in town with everybody.”
“We just try to take care of everybody,” Fraser said. “That’s what was instilled in me.”
“That’s part of the way we do business – we take care of the customers and they take care of you,” Fraser said.
Fraser met his wife at the station.
“He fixed my car and I asked him out,” Darcy Fraser said.
The couple lives in Damariscotta with their daughters, Aysel and Carmela.
Twin Villages Downtown Alliance President Mary Kate Reny said the organization wants to recognize a downtown employee or employees every year who best exemplify the alliance’s mission in their service to the public.
The alliance “recognizes that employees of businesses are the front line face of our enterprises and key players in our success,” according to a press release.
The alliance’s mission “is to promote and enhance across all sectors of the Twin Villages an environment of well-being and successful commerce,” according to the press release.
Sproul’s Furniture sponsored the event.
