Sheepscot Pottery is holding its second annual sale Dec. 11 and 12 to benefit the Lincoln County Animal Shelter. Storeowner Karen Okie described the effort as a way to help the shelter with its considerable needs and save her customers money during the holiday season.
“Everyone who donates money will receive a piece of paper to tack on the wall. We will then attach a savings discount to each with deals up to 25 percent for items in the shop,” said Okie.
The venerable pottery store, now in its 36th year, will offer the sale at both the Edgecomb and Damariscotta locations. While known for the eclectic pottery made on the premises, the store also offers a bit of everything, said Okie.
“We have anything from unique holiday cards to handmade jewelry. We’re open seven days a week and only close three times a year, ” she said.
In addition to the wide variety of gift options, the store features a four legged attraction in the form of Schatzi, a five year old miniature Dachshund who prowls the Edgecomb store with a vigilant stare and friendly wag of the tail.
“He’s the real attraction. We have people who come just to see him,” said Okie.
Last year’s sale raised over $450 for the shelter, a number Oakie hopes to surpass this year. She points out that the donations will go directly to the shelter to help with operating expenses.
Store hours are 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Sunday and it will be open Christmas Eve until 5 p.m., Okie said.
