The Dept. of Transportation (DOT) began a scheduled closure of Sheepscot Road Sept. 20. The road will remain closed to through traffic until Oct. 1, Public Information Officer Mark Latti said.
DOT crews are replacing a culvert about halfway between the road’s intersection with Rt. 1 and the village of Sheepscot, Latti said.
“There’s a detour set up,” Latti said. Travelers or residents accessing the northwest section of the road will have to do so via Rt. 218.
Commercial vehicles over six tons will need to follow a different route, from Rt. 1 to Rt. 27 to Fowle Hill Road to West Alna Road to Rt. 218. The section of Rt. 218 from Rt. 1 to West Alna Road (Federal Road) has a weight limit of six tons.
“We hope to have [construction] completed within two weeks,” Latti said. If crews complete the work sooner, DOT will open the road, but DOT expects the work to last two weeks, Latti said.
