Responding to concerns raised by his staff and Town Road Commissioners within Lincoln County, Sheriff Todd B. Brackett warns Lincoln County residents about the dangers associated with the piles of snow that have accumulated both at intersections and at the end of private driveways.
Sheriff Brackett urges motorist to use caution when approaching these areas as the visibility in most cases has been greatly reduced. Lincoln County Deputies have recently responded to motor vehicle crashes where this reduced visibility was a factor.
Brackett is asking residents in Lincoln County to please take this issue into consideration in hopes of avoiding any future crashes.
In addition to the visibility issues caused by the recent heavy snow Brackett reminds those plowing and shoveling private ways and walks that in Maine it is illegal to “… place and allow to remain on a public way snow or slush that has not accumulated there naturally.”
Brackett reports that Deputies have responded to complaints about this issue in the past and that snow left in the roadway causes additional work for public work crews as well as additional hazards for those using the public way.
