The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information related to a crash in Bremen New Year’s Eve where a silver sedan received significant damage after striking a utility pole and later left the scene, according to Deputy Mark Bridgham.
The call for the accident came in between 7 and 7:30 p.m. New Year’s Eve as a silver four-door sedan with two occupants – one male and one female – struck a pole on Route 32 near Rial Herald Road, Bridgham said.
“[The] entire front end driver’s side will show significant damage,” he said.
The Bremen Fire Department responded to the scene, and as they arrived, the sedan was seen back on the roadway – off the pole and out of the ditch – and took off headed south at a high rate of speed, Bridgham said.
The fire department began to follow the vehicle, but were called off as the sedan’s speed increased, he said.
As the car drove away, the driver’s side front tire split in half vertically, and Bridgham was able to recover one of the halves. The way the tire split was a good indication of how hard the vehicle struck the pole, he said.
“You can see the bottom of the pole was splintered; it was hit very, very hard,” Bridgham said.
Bridgham said the sedan had to have been pulled back onto the road by another vehicle, and members of the fire department saw a dark colored Toyota pickup headed northbound past them as they responded to the scene.
The pickup may have been involved in pulling the vehicle back onto the roadway, Bridgham said.
