A single vehicle traffic accident occurred on Rt. 27, Edgecomb in the area south of Middle Road, June 20, at 2:45 p.m. This crash resulted in injuries to the vehicle operator and sole occupant.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Elwood Burbank, 52, of Edgecomb was traveling south on Rt. 27 in his 1990 Chevrolet Lumina when he encountered a lane closure due to construction. Burbank attempted to stop, however he reported his brakes failed to engage.
The Burbank vehicle entered the southbound ditch, came back onto the paved road surface, crossed the roadway and entered the northbound ditch. The vehicle struck the embankment head on and came to rest. Burbank was not wearing a seatbelt and received head and facial injuries.
Burbank was treated by Edgecomb Fire Dept. and Wiscasset Ambulance Service and transported to Miles Hospital in Damariscotta.
The primary investigating officer is Sgt. Jason Nein. No charges are being contemplated in this crash.
