Skidompha Public Library is warning the community to be on the alert for a scam in which callers claim to be from the library and ask for credit card information.
According to Skidompha Public Library Executive Director Pam Gormley, callers tell the person they have overdue books and must give the caller their credit card information over the phone, or they will not be able to borrow books from the library anymore.
“We never do this,” Gormley said.
Anyone who receives a similar call should hang up the phone immediately, call the library at 563-5513, and report the call to the Damariscotta Police Department at 563-1909, interim Police Chief Jason Warlick said.
