After a pause for safety concerns during whiteout conditions the morning of Monday, Feb. 13, plow trucks are back on the road in towns across Lincoln County.
Hagar Enterprises Inc., of Damariscotta, holds contracts with Alna, Damariscotta, Newcastle, and Nobleboro for winter road maintenance. Hagar pulled its drivers off the road from around 8-11 a.m. for the drivers’ safety, Vice President Seth Hagar said.
“With the sheer volume and intensity out there, it was getting impossible for them to see. There was nothing we could do but wait it out,” Hagar said.
With drivers back on the roads, most major roads are open and all roads will be scraped before Tuesday morning, Hagar said. It will take crews the better part of the next few days to get the snow pushed back.
“This is a true, old-fashioned Maine snowstorm, without a doubt,” Hagar said.
The Waldoboro Department of Public Works pulled its plow trucks just before 10 a.m. due to whiteout conditions, according to a post on the Waldoboro Police Department’s Facebook page. By 11:45 a.m., drivers were back on the road, according to Waldoboro Public Works Director John Daigle.
