A single story ranch house on Phyllis Lane in South Bristol was saved recently because of quick work by the local fire department.
“The South Bristol Fire Department didn’t do good work. They did excellent work,” said the homeowner, who declined to be identified.
Fire Chief Robert “Mitch” Mitchell, said some heat tape in the crawl space shorted out and ignited a fire in the crawl space under the residence.
“The owner smelled smoke and called us. We got there just in time,” he said.
Firefighters were able to strap on air packs, crawl under the home and reach the source of the fire to put it out.
The chief said the fire occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Monday, April 27. Twelve firefighters and five fire engines were called to fight the blaze.
