The South Bristol Board of Selectmen has signed a contract with a Sanford firm to build a new sand-and-salt shed.
The town’s approximately 30-year-old shed on Old Barn Road in Walpole collapsed under several feet of snow Feb. 13.
Rubb Inc. will erect a fabric storage building similar in shape to a Quonset hut, according to Selectman Chester Rice.
The nearly 50-year-old Rubb Inc. builds aircraft hangars, port warehouses, and sports centers using the same technology it employs in its salt storage structures. The business has offices in Norway and the U.K. as well as Sanford.
The South Bristol project will cost approximately $123,000, which the town’s insurance will cover. Rice expects construction to begin in August and last about a week.
