The swing bridge on Route 129 in South Bristol that connects the mainland to Rutherford Island is again open to vehicle traffic after becoming stuck open at approximately 2:45 p.m., Monday, July 14, according to bridge operator Mark Page.
Page said one of four rams that lifts the bridge to road level after it closes malfunctioned.
“We had to jack up that one ram to get the bridge safely in place on its pad,” Page said. “The bridge is now open to vehicle traffic.”
According to Page, the ram malfunction may be an electrical problem. A Cianbro crew arrived at 8 a.m., Tuesday, July 15 to attempt repairs.
The bridge remains closed to boat traffic, Page said.
