A local carpenter is rebuilding a wharf and another contractor is due to pave the boat ramp and parking area as work progresses on the new South Bristol town landing.
Split Rock Carpentry plans to complete the wharf by mid-September, according to carpenter Arthur Cushing.
As soon as the pavers finish work, someone will come in to build and install a new float. “That’s pretty much as far as we’re going this year,” South Bristol Selectman Ken Lincoln said.
The ramp is already popular with boaters. “We’re not saying it’s open to the public, but you can back right in and put your boat in,” Lincoln said.
Next year, work will continue as the town builds and installs several floats, landscapes the area, and adds picnic tables.
Feedback about the project is 100 percent positive, with comments like “it should have happened 30 years ago” and “you couldn’t have picked a better spot,” Lincoln said.
“Everybody loves it,” Lincoln said.
