A South Bristol woman remains at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after sustaining injuries in a three-vehicle accident on Route 1 in Woolwich the afternoon of Sunday, Aug. 14.
Sara Busch, 71, of South Bristol, was driving north on Route 1 in a 2011 Subaru Outback when she crossed into the southbound lane and struck the driver’s side of a 2003 Buick being driven by Aaron Limberger, 21, of Vassalboro, according to Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Brett Strout.
The impact caused Busch’s Subaru to become airborne before rolling on the road, striking the roof and hood of a southbound 1998 Toyota Corrolla belonging to Jose Fernandez-Robledo, 52, of Damariscotta. Fernandez-Robledo was also driving south, Strout said.
The Subaru continued to roll before coming to rest on its roof in the southbound lane, Strout said.
The accident took place on a bridge near the Montsweag Flea Market, Strout said. Both lanes of traffic were closed for two hours.
The Woolwich Fire Department extricated Busch from the vehicle, Strout said.
Busch was transported by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Her condition is not being made available at the request of her family, according to hospital personnel.
North East Mobile Health Services transported Fernandez-Robledo to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, where he was treated and released, according to hospital personnel.
Limberger did not report having any injuries, Strout said.
The cause of the accident has not been determined and the accident remains under investigation, Strout said.
Woolwich Emergency Medical Services also responded to the scene, Strout said. The Wiscasset Fire Department was paged to provide traffic control.
Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Thibeault is the investigating officer.
