The Dresden Fire Association voted June 5 for Assistant Chief Steve Lilly to succeed his uncle, Chief Gerald Lilly, when Gerald steps down from the position later this month.
Gerald Lilly has said he is stepping down to avoid a conflict of interest due his candidacy for second selectman.
Eligible members of the association voted unanimously for Steve Lilly as the new fire chief. Captain Ron Theriault was voted in unanimously as the new assistant fire chief.
Though Steve Lilly and Theriault were elected by the association, Dresden voters at town meeting on Saturday June 15 will vote whether to authorize the selectmen to appoint the positions of fire chief and assistant fire chief.
“I’ve got big shoes to fill,” Steve said after the meeting. “Gerald’s been chief for a long time and I’ve been his assistant for a long time.”
Steve said he does not plan on making any changes right off, and the department’s officers will remain the same for the time being.
For the association’s officers, President Gorham Lilly, Secretary Pat Theriault, and Treasurer Shari Lilly were all re-elected. John Bolduc was elected vice-president to replace Ron Theriault.
